Friday 10: From the Land of the Ice and Snow

Our only goal will be the western shore.

Last week’s answers (and videos!) are posted. Less than half of the songs were identified, but since we had fifteen lyrics that was still seven correct answers. I feel like most of these songs were really well-known, but the artists were tricky for some people. Some of them were minor hit-makers (Belly, Greg Kihn Band), while others have probably dropped out of the general conciousness (the Lovin’ Spoonful, Molly Hatchet).

And you have to dig pretty deep to remember a name like “Loudon Wainwright III.” It’s a fine name, it just doesn’t really stick in your brain all that well.

Woke up this morning to the first significant snowfall of the season. Some years we don’t see this amount of snow until February. Some years we don’t see it at all. So I am feeling particularly frozen.

Now I’d better stop and rebuild all my ruins. (Or at least send my son out to shovel the driveway). You, however, can go ahead and get started guessing, as long as you follow these three simple guidelines:

  1. No searching (not that search even works anymore)
  2. Provide the artist and the song title, or at least near enough to both that I know what you’re talking about.
  3. I’ll accept (some) cover versions, depending on how well known those covers are. It’s a judgment call.

After you’re done, check out Glen’s!

This week's lyrics:

  1. Bumper to bumper, the avenue’s packed. I’m trying to get away before the jackers jack
  2. Winter — Tori Amos
I tell you that I’ll always want you near. You say that things change, my dear.

  3. Ice Cream — Sarah McLachlan
Oh, love is better than chocolate; Everyone here knows how to cry.

  4. I Love Rocky Road — “Weird Al” Yankovic
But I'll be back on Monday afternoon, you’ll see. Another truckload’s coming in for me — all for me!

  5. Cold as Ice — Foreigner
You want paradise. But someday you’ll pay the price, I know.

  6. November Rain — Guns N’ Roses
When your fears subside and when shadows still remain, I know that you can love me when there's no one left to blame.

  7. I got me a drop-top, and if I hit the switch I can make the ass drop
  8. Hazy Shade of Winter — Simon & Garfunkel (covered by The Bangles)
Seasons change with the scenery, weaving time in a tapestry. Won’t you stop and remember me?

  9. If I didn’t tell her, I could leave today
  10. A Long December — Counting Crows
I guess the winter makes you laugh a little slower, makes you talk a little lower, about the things you could not show her.
