I Can’t Stand the Rain

Against My Window

Heavy clouds visible above the tops of trees, which, despite the clouds, are brightly lit by sunlight.
I know you’ve got some sweet memory. But, like the window, you ain’t got nothin’ to say.

*Update: * Glen has more lyrics to identify. So does Fred!

We got so close last week to a perfect score, with 9/10. The lyric that stumped everyone was:

“She’s moving up, going right through my heart — we might not ever get caught.”

Occasionally I pull a lyric from a song I think is iconic, but it goes past everyone without even a guess. Which is not surprising; there are tons of songs where the chorus is super catchy but the verses are incomprehensible or very forgettable. Talking Heads lyrics can be particularly hard to internalize because there’s no clear connective tissue between one line and another. They releate, sure. But the flow is weird enough that they’re hard to memorize without deliberate effort.

Some tricky ones in this one, date-wise. In one case the year is probably misleading; in another, the year is critical to guessing the the correct song.

Good luck!

The rules

  1. Put the song title and artist in the comments below. I do accept anonymous comments.
  2. I’ll accept cover artists as well.
  3. But don’t go looking up the lyrics before guessing. That’s cheating.
