Friday 10: Sitting on a Cornflake
Waiting for the van to come
Last week’s answers are now up. We had eight correct guesses in short order! Despite what I thought was a give-away name-drop in the lyric, no one recognized the Wu-Tang Clan’s Protect Ya Neck. Nor did anyone seem to remember Glen Yarbrough’s The Hobbit theme The Greatest Adventure. Based on my last watch-through of the 1977 Rankin/Bass production, that’s not a bad thing. I watched it a ton when I was a kid, but as an adult I found it tooth-grindingly awful in a way nostalgia just couldn’t offset.
Oh, the video for Protect Ya Neck is from PBS and has a live orchestra. “Classic rappers + live orchestra” seems to be a video genre now. The Simpsons should be proud for again predicting (maybe creating?) a fad.
Here’s another ten lyrics; I think chances are good we’ll see all of them guessed this week.
If you’ve never played before, the rules are simple:
- Post your guesses in the comments. Provide both the artist and the title.
- No fair searching.
- Covers are accepted if I can find them. (It’s surprising how often hit songs are covers, actually.)
If’n that ain’t enough for ya, try Glen’s. Also, let’s all welcome Fred, who has also posted ten lyrics for you to guess! I’d considered adding more than ten each week, but this is much better: more people posting their own versions of this game!
